Hotel Totem

Located right across the street from the gorgeous beach known as Playa Cocles and only a short walk or bike ride into Puerto Viejo, this Totem is a great mid-range choice for the Caribbean bound visitor. Their suites will comfortably sleep up  to four people and either have ocean views on the top floor, or direct pool access on the lower floor. The hotel has a tasty gourmet restaurant and a general laid back Caribbean vibe. The beach in front has fun waves that are great for beginners.

Azania Bungalows

Another great choice among our Costa Rica Caribbean hotels that is just a little ways outside of the bustle of Puerto Viejo, the Costa Rica Caribbean side’s Jaco beach. The rooms are thatched-roof bungalow style, which seem to be very popular for clients wanting an authentic Costa Rica Caribbean experience. The hotel has a great pool, bar and restaurant.  The beach with white sand and calm turquoise waters is just across the street. Each bungalow will comfortably sleep up to four guests, with a queen bed and two singles. And to remind you where you are, the beds come complete with mosquito nets, although the ceiling fans are generally enough to keep those little buggers away.

Pachira Lodge

This is our go-to Tortuguero lodge and probably the nicest of the Costa Rica Caribbean hotels in the Tortuguero area. Stays there include all meals and drinks, tours of the canals and transportation from the dock at Caño Blanco. A trip to Tortuguero is a special experience for the true nature lover as it is one of the most bio-diverse and last untouched wildernesses of Costa Rica. The place is surrounded by wetlands and canals and can only be accessed feasibly by boat.  From July to September, only a few minutes from the lodge, you can enjoy an unforgettable experience: the arrival of the highly endangered green sea turtle.

Almonds and Corals

This is the most upscale choice among our Costa Rica Caribbean hotels. It is located at Playa Manzanillo, about a 10 to 15 minute ride from Puerto Viejo. The lodge’s room are referred to as pavilions and are luxury tents raised about 6 feet of the ground. Here is the description from the web site, “pavilions have a palm roof and are furnished with rustic luxury, all raised off the ground and connected by wooden walkways (that provide a safe walk through the jungle, towards the restaurant or the beach) during the night these walkways are illuminated by torches, providing the perfect atmosphere of a safari camp.” Another great thing about Almonds and Corals is that it is located adjacent to the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, which in my opinion is one of the most naturally beautiful locations in the country.
