Casitas Eclipse

Our go-to hotel in the Manuel Antonio area. Casitas features a Mediterranean white adobe design with comfortable rooms, a great restaurant, and a central location. There is also a bar and disco and a large pool area. The hotel is not located beach-side,  but it is only a short walk or cab ride to the beaches and Manuel Antonio National Park. We are especially impressed with the service that our customers receive while at this charming hotel in the heart of Manuel Antonio.

Costa Verde

The motto of Costa Verde is “more monkeys than people” and having stayed there quite a few times myself, I will vouch for that as fact. Costa Verde is one of the longest running of the Manuel Antonio hotels and has been pleasing customers in this area for decades. We especially like this hotel for families, but they also have an adult section that is great for honeymooners and romantic getawayers as well. Each section has its own pool. Costa Verde’s most expensive room, The 727 Fusilage, is actually a super luxurious room built out of a salvaged 727 plane. The owner seems to be an airplane aficionado, as he also owns one of the popular restaurants in the area (just across the street from Casitas Eclipse) that is (if you can guess it) built from a salvaged Ollie North Iran-Contra affair spy plane. Costa Verde’s restaurant has great food and views of the Manuel Antonio bay.

Hotel California

Hotel California has long been one of my favorite Manuel Antonio hotels in the mid-range category. It has a great view of the backside mountains and “Costanera” coastline (the Costanera is Costa Rica’s coastal highway). The rooms are comfortable, the pool area super nice and the food authentic tico-style and tasty. But what has always made Hotel California stand out for me is the friendly service. The folks at this hotel really go out of their way to keep a smile on the faces (their own and that of the guests). They tend to be so friendly that it can sometime be a bit  intimidating for us gringos. That is the Pura Vida attitude that keeps customers coming back year after year to Costa Rica.

La Mansion Inn

If Hotel California gets the hospitality award for the mid-range Manuel Antonio hotels, La Mansion Inn certainly earns it for the upscales. La Mansion’s motto is “come as a guest and leave as a friend” and having experienced the service first-hand many times, I have to say that La Mansion Inn really has a way of making one feel at home. Their deluxe ocean view rooms have views of the Manuel Antonio bay that can’t be beat. There are some interesting things about this place as well. For one thing they feature a “bat cave bar” that is, well, a cave with bats and a bar. Really cool. They also have an upscale restaurant, but the pool area with swim up bar is what I like the most. The pool is one of those with the disappearing edges that “disappears” right into Manuel Antonio bay. I could spend hours with a cool drink in hand, relaxing in the pool and gazing at that view. La Mansion is an adults hotel that caters to honeymooners and romantic getaways.

Arenas del Mar

A one of a kind boutique hotel that offers 5-star accommodations and service and 5-leaf sustainability (the highest ranking possible under Costa Rica’s certificate for sustainable tourism program). While other Manuel Antonio hotels are built on high ground, some with ocean view, Arenas is the one closest to “beachfront.” The hotel has direct access to two pristine white sand beaches: Espadilla Beach and Playitas Beach. The hotel is also located within walking distance of Costa Rica’s most visited national park and other restaurants, shops and bars that are located adjacent to the park entrance.

San Bada

San Bada is a relatively new hotel located right by the entrance to the Manuel Antonio National Park. It features luxurious accommodations with higher floor rooms having spectacular ocean views. There is also a great family pool with slide, as well as an adult pool. The hotel has a number of restaurants as well as a bar. It is also easy walking distance from the public beach area.

Tulemar Bungalows

This is a great upscale option for families. Tulemar features luxury bungalows and villas that are fully equipped. One, two and three bedroom units are available. The bungalows feature an octagonal design that presents a panoramic ocean view. The resort is set amid the peaceful 33-acre gated Tulemar Gardens property that slopes down to its own exclusive sandy beach. Tulemar Beach is located in a protected bay allowing you to take advantage of the various water activities without having to worry about undertows or riptides.
