200 reasons ago (#96 to be exact) I invited Rush Limbaugh to come to Costa Rica.  Seems he is actually considering taking me up on the suggestion.  Recently a caller asked him where he would go if health care legislation passed.  He replied, “Costa Rica.”  Well it has passed…so where’s Rush?  A couple guys in New York have even gone so far as to put up a web siteseeking donations to buy Rush a commercial plane ticket (even though he professes that “I never fly commercial”), rent him a house, get him Spanish lessons, etc.  The mere fact that Rush mentioned Costa Rica as his preferred region of refuge (once heard Bill O’Reilly say something similar…see Post #37) is a testimony to how popular this country is becoming (perhaps a little too popular).  But you know there is a bit of irony in the whole thing.  Why?  Well Rush is saying that he’d move to Costa Rica as a reaction to his stance against universal health care in the U.S., but guess what?  Costa Rica has had universal health care for the last 50 plus years!  Does Rush know that?  Not to mention that Costa Rica is a steadfast advocate for action against global warming (having vowed to be “carbon neutral” by 2021) and Rush believes all that nonsense about global warming and polar bear extinction is just a left-wing hoax.  Costa Rica has a pretty progressive social-minded government that I don’t believe fits well with Rush’s overall political mindset.  And I can’t see Rush venturing off into the jungle with a pair of binoculars in search of the “resplendent quetzal.”  He seems to be more of a “Four Seasons” kind of guy if you ask me.  Well I guess Costa Rica has a little bit of everything for everyone, so Rush if you’re really serious come on down.  I’ll be glad to show you around a bit.  Perhaps you’d like to donate some of your millions to my indigenous project?  I guess Rush and his followers are a little “let-down” now that the poor of the U.S. have a shot at health care that rivals the type they get to enjoy.  What a travesty for the richest nation on the planet to have extended this “socialist” perk to its people.  I can see why Rush wants to leave….the U.S. just isn’t stacked on the side of the wealthy like it used to be.  Remember though Rush, the U.S. taxes on a worldwide basis, so don’t think that coming to Costa Rica will help you hide from the taxman.  Perhaps you would consider giving up your U.S. citizenship and becoming a tico?  First you have to learn the real meaning behind these two words…Pura Vida.
