Hotel Irazu
The Best Western Irazu is located 20 minutes from the San Jose International Airport and only 10 minutes from central, or downtown, San Jose. The hotel offers 4-star accommodations and amenities such as a great fitness center, in-room Internet, a large pool, a bar with free happy hour from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and casino. The hotel is located adjacent to a commercial center where you can find a variety of restaurants and shops. The Irazu is unique among San Jose Costa Rica hotels as it offers the only Denny’s in Costa Rica. The hotel is very convenient for first and/or last nights on our package designs since they offer a free shuttle to the airport and free international calls.
Grano de Oro
Converted from a Victorian Mansion and located in the thriving Paseo Colón area, Grano de Oro is one of the best choices among romantic San Jose Costa Rica hotels with all the comforts of home. The hotel features one of the best downtown restaurants. This hotel is featured on our Adventure Romance package and is the perfect setting for a honeymoon, or romantic getaway. The hotel features all the amenities one would expect from a 4-star hotel and the service is impeccable.
Hotel Bougainvillea
Hotel Bougainvillea is located in the hills of Heredia about 20 minutes outside of central San Jose (depending on traffic). The hotel is one of the most beautiful among those of the Central Valley and offers an authentic representation of everything that is Pura Vida. The hotel features beautiful and spacious rooms, an excellent restaurant, cozy bar with fireplace (it does get cold at night), tennis courts, a pool and a spectacular garden featuring a dazzling array of flora and bronze sculptures from local artists. The Bougainvillea is a great choice among San Jose Costa Rica hotels to escape the bustle of the big city, but still be close to the airport and other big city perks.
Finca Rosa Blanca
This award-winning boutique hotel was one of the first to gain the coveted 5-leaf rating, the highest in sustainability under Costa Rica’s CST (certificate in sustainable tourism) program. It may be green, but it is also super luxury. Nestled among the fields of the owner’s organic coffee plantation, every suite at Finca Rosa Blanca offers a different decorated theme, such as la carreta, las aves, or el cafetal. In the restaurant you can taste some of the local organic cuisine. The hotel is located in the hills above the central valley, so the climate is cool and that makes for a perfect transition from the hot and humid temperatures of the beach. Finca Rosa Blanca is less than an hour from the San Jose airport, making it a great choice for the first and/or last night in Costa Rica.
Villa Blanca
Another luxury boutique hotel in the super green category and also one that holds the 5-leaf rating. This beautiful hotel was once the property of one of Costa Rica’s former presidents. He built a small chapel on the property and decorated the ceiling with painted ceramic tiles telling the history of Costa Rica, ala the Sistine Chapel. And it is still there. The hotel is located in a high altitude cloud forest of Los Angeles near the quaint little pueblo of San Ramon (known as the “city of poets and presidents”). The climate can be surprisingly cool at night and each little cabin has a romantic fireplace to keep you safe from the chill. The hotel is surrounded by lush cloud forest that hosts an incredible amount of flora and fauna. There are hiking trails throughout the property, or, for the more adventurous, take a guided horseback ride through the rolling hills. Finca Rosa Blanca is an experience you’ll never forget.
Peace Lodge
The Peace Lodge is truly one of a kind. This famous hotel is home to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a series of spectacular waterfalls and other exhibits, such as jungle cats, monkeys, butterflies, snakes and more. It is a veritable Costa Rican jungle theme park nestled in the cloud forest of Vara Blanca. The hotel itself offers a unique brand of luxury with differentiating factors such as showers that appear as waterfalls. The Peace Lodge is located about an hour from the San Jose airport. It is a feature hotel for the first or last nights on many of our custom designs.
