It has to be green. I also like red and blue. But if I have to pick a favorite, that would certainly be green. Why green? Well for one thing, it is the color of Costa Rica. I have never encountered a place so verdantly and vibrantly green. It is mesmerizing. You can stare at all that green and feel yourself being drawn into it. It beckons and tempts the soul to venture off into those verdant green rolling hills until you disappear forever. They seem to be alive and hold mysteries that are waiting to be told (in fact they are and they do). Granted, there are aspects of the color green that aren’t that appealing. I mean there are certain things you generally would not want to associate the color green to…take meat for instance, or “green eggs and ham, Sam, I am”….I mean, come on Dr. Seuss, yuck! And there are the common negative phrases that come to mind that are associated with green, such as “green with envy” and “green around the gills.” Those don’t conger up fond associations with the hue. But, nevertheless, if you ask me to pick a favorite color, it would certainly and unequivocally be g-r-e-e-n. Some folks will probably scoff at my simplicity. I mean why not pick a more complicated color, like “fuchsia?” I had to look up the spelling for that. Listen, I am a simple and devoutly heterosexual guy and my favorite color would never be one that I have to look up the spelling for. You are probably thinking, has Costa Rica Guy been hitting his favorite bottle today? What has inspired this randomly trivial post about a color? A color! Colors are what give meaning to life. Can you imagine a colorless world? Would the world even exist without colors? Colors are the reality that we perceive and in their absence there is no perception. There is no true reality. So, my dear friends, this in NO trivial post! What is your favorite color? And an even better question, why is that your favorite color? That is a thought provoking question if you really devote the time to think through it. If your favorite color is red for instance, there may be some deep troubling element way down in your soul that makes that devilish color so appealing. Maybe you need to analyze this a bit. As for me, I like my simple green. Forest green. Deep and mysterious green. Spinach green. Blarney green. A green that engulfs and surrounds and emerses the soul like a deep dark forest. You may never get out of such a color if you go too deep into it. So, this has been my colorful post. Don’t expect anything remotely similar any time soon.
